Dr. David Abbott joined the faculty of Albion College in 2005. Prior to this he resided for ten years in Switzerland where he performed frequently as both soloist and collaborative artist. He was a member of the Swiss Chamber Soloists and toured throughout Switzerland, Germany and Australia. He has recorded an acclaimed recording of Schumann’s piano quartet and quintet with this ensemble for Claves Records.
He recently taught as a guest professor at well known Jacobs School of Music at Indiana Universityand also was on the faculty of the Schaffausen and Zurich Musik Konservatoriums. He founded the Con Brio Music Academy at the Hindemith Music Center in Blonay Switzerland and returns there in summers to teach courses in both piano and chamber music. He was the only triple-prize winner of the International Music Competition in Geneva and received two special prizes for his performance of the piano sonata by the Swiss Composer Ernest Bloch.
Dr. Lia Jensen-Abbott earned degrees in piano performance from The University of Nebraska, Pennsylvania State University and Indiana University. She has taught and performed at the Con Brio Festival in Blonay, Switzerland and in June 2009, reached the second round of the International Mendelssohn Piano Competition in Taurisano, Italy. Dr. Jensen-Abbott has given numerous lecture recitals on her areas of research –Beethoven and Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn. Drs. Abbott and Jensen-Abbott have frequently performed as a duo in the past five years across the United States and this performance marks their first appearance together in Switzerland.
